The City of Pacific Skaters have had minimal requirements for membership since their beginning: basically, show up for the meetings and you're in. And we want to keep it open, but we've also noticed a disturbing trend that needs to be addressed: skaters get blamed for everything. The other night, a group of kids were at the park across from our house (Joe and Annie) making a bunch of noise and trying to break down the door to the bathrooms. Joe walked over there to see who it was, (they took off too soon), and when an officer showed up he immediately assumed that "it was probably one of those skater punks." Well. It wasn't. At least not any of the City of Pacific Skater (punks). The problem is though, that people who don't know us lump all the skaters together with all the troublemakers, vandals, druggies, and generally unpleasant people. We admit, sometimes that's valid. But not always. Not even often. Our effort to get the citizens of Pacific to understand that not all skaters are punks takes form in an official C.O.P.S. charter . To be a member of the City of Pacific Skaters, you must sign the charter. As of our last meeting (31 March 08), we have 12 members and this is who they are: Kirk GebelKyle MurphyStephen TaldertCasey WhitneyBrian KnauerAndrew MorganMicah CountsNic NelsonAndrae CannonLyle GonzalezAndrea MuellerJoseph Mueller As Charter members, we are agreeing to uphold the charter and encourage each other to do the same. We want the community to know that we're not out to make trouble, mess things up, or bring our city down. We want to skate, and we want to be a good part of our town. Read the Official Charter here. |
