If you’re training to learn different Tips for dunking look into a great exercise known as plyometrics, which is specifically designed to train fiber muscles in your legs that give you a quick explosive jump. Great plyometrics to practice are jump squats, lateral jumps, one-leg squats, and box jumps.
When these types of players aren’t playing the game of basketball, they’ll usually engage in pick up games or they’ll try to shoot on their own. Naturally, all of these tend to be more fun than organized drills, but that’s part of the problem. Playing basketball will only have you concentrating on shooting and scoring, while drills will actually help you develop the skills necessary to shoot and score effectively. Basketball players need to engage in drills that perfect the fundamentals of the game, and on a constant basis, even if it’s not very fun. If this isn’t done, you are only going to end up committing the same blunders over and over and that’s when you’ll just stay at the same skill level you are now.
If you’re an avid basketball player, you know there are two types of players: those who can dunk and those who can’t. In your average pick up game, you’re not going to come across a lot of people who are able to dunk. Imagine how much of an advantage you had if you were able to jump over practically anyone.
I’ve always been somewhat ‘iffy’ about ankle weights. I mean I’ve heard of people trying things such as “strength shoes” and yet experience little to no real vertical gains. According to a jump manual, that I very much agree with as many of the training principles seem to make sense, true vertical gains come from explosive power which is something plyometrics isn’t aimed at doing. Muscle gain and excess fat loss is the real way to start jumping higher faster and while you may feel like you’re jumping higher with things such as ankle weights, the results will most likely be very minimal.
Dunking is a very simple process and if you follow the numbers, you will be amazed at your ability and knowledge of how to dunk the basketball. Here is how you do it.
# Dribble at speed to within 12 feet of the goal and get set up for your jump
# Pick the ball up, take two steps and have both hands on the ball
# Push up towards to the rim, making a high jump
# Extend ball either behind head
# Use your extended arm to reach the rim.
